There were several notice boards with names of huts, 4x4 trail etc. I stopped at the Woodbush hut and walked around a bit.

Discovered some very tall bamboo near the hut (by my estimation, about 25m tall)

Found the O'Conner Monument a bit further down the road. I saw this monument on google maps and wanted to stop by to have a look.

"O'CONNER MEMORIAL
The pioneer forester of the district - located on the Woodbush Forest Drive. At the end of an avenue of enormous Blue Gum trees planted by Alexander James O'Connor himself. This memorial to the District Officer of the Woodbush, and later Director of the Division of Forestry, shares the same epitaph as that of Sir Christopher Wren."

Some very tall bluegum trees in the vicinity of the monument. A hiking trail goes right past there as well.

Sorry to read about your pain - really not fair!

but thank you for the RR - I must really come and ride that area more, its not even that far from the Big Smoke!

As I exited another pine forest, I saw what appeared to be a blank notice board on the left side of the road. By chance I glimpsed back at the board when I went past and ........ noticed this sign.

So, it appears as if I was on this glorious road illegally. It was not intentionally as in my defense, I never saw a similar notice board at the beginning of my ride. Well, no harm no fowl. The forest station employees never queried me being on my bike in the area, so I will not lose any sleep over it.

All the best with your father. The Big C net great. Lost my Mom to it.

Great pics. Need to do those roads as well.
Have done them with my Tazz, off all cars, and my Mountain bike.
Belonged to the trout club many years back!
beautiful area that.

From there I continued on a very dusty road dogging some logging trucks going in both directions.

Saw this mansion on the side of a hill. What a nice place to live.

All too soon I was back on the tar road at Magoebaskloof.
On the way home, I stopped at Magoebaskloof Hotel for some water and a photo.

Took some more dirt to get close to Ebenezer Dam for a photo

One more photo of the dam from a higher view point and different angle

Safely back home with the infamous red dust of Haenertsburg clinging to every part of the bike

bietjie meer oor O'connor
O'CONNOR's GIANTS: MONUMENTAL EUCALYPTUS AT WOODBUSH FOREST, SOUTH AFRICA

by Izak van der Merwe (1)

More than one century ago, in 1906, a stand of Eucalyptus saligna was planted on Woodbush Estate in the Limpopo Province by one of South Africa’s early forestry pioneers, Alexander James O’Connor. Many of the trees have reached nowadays impressive heights measured at between 70 and 80 m. In 2003 the tallest of these trees was measured by a land surveyor at 81.5m tall (+265 ft).

Thanks for sharing, Manny, Sorry to hear about your old man. Strongs Bud.
Roan beat me to it, I was going to say, the sign says nothing about dual sport bikes so youre in the clear
I suspect Like with the Namaqua Reserve, Old postal route etc, some hooligans on dirt bikes and quads probably spoiled it for the rest, making **** in the forests, so we all get banned, but better to ask forgiveness than permission
