Thanks VA. Thats actually why I put that pic up, for the guys that have been there which will realize to what extend the water has raised.

I remember the last time we were there we actually struggled to find that tree, it wasnt near the water at all

:thumleft: :thumleft:

I am still amazed at the amount of water that came down there.  :eek7:  When we were there, the river was about 100m, if not more, from that tree.

This was the situation at the beginning of Jan this year:

I believe this is the spot where you fell into water with the bike - as you can see on the picture you cannot even see water around (and this was already after heavy rains when the main track to Eksteenfontein was badly washed away:

This is the spot about km or two up the river from that spot - I think you have picture somewhere there of you guys going through water:

And this is the spot prior day on namaqu 4x4 - you have picture there of your budy walking the water above his knees:

Thanks for sharing! This was my first time in this valley and I stand amazed on how much water there were when we were there. I remember the lodge owner @oewerbos said that they expected the river to rise another 1.5m from the previous night based on the dams that was opened up... we could see how the water rised at the lodge from the previous night to the next morning.

While fighting to get the bike started the thought of water rising was constantly there... thinking what would happen if the water rised another 1m...seems these type of floods is every 10years. Previous flood was 2011...

good eye, thanks Xpat!

Its nice to see what the surface is like beneath the water in your pics.

We often chickened out on the water  crossing because we thought that while the depth was at the limit, we did not trust the traction. And its not short dips, so getting stuck at your wading depth limit did not look like a good option.
But I did enjoy it all, and my swing arm has a hole drilled into it now, so hopefully I can do some more wet rides soon. Our actual rain season is only supposed to start now.

Yes, the surface in that spot where you went swimming was tricky even dry. It was quite steep with deep curned up sand and the exit was uphill over big rocks. This Cruiser got stuck there and couldn't get out at least for 10 minutes while I watched - I got bored afterwards and went back to the bike, while they were still stuck there:
