James was unlucky to put a rock upright with his front wheel and get it lodged under the header pipe, which in turn lifted the wheels off the ground

Luckily he was able to save it and continue on his merry way.....

Noneking the 790's first gear slow enough for this rock graveyard?

The 790 was much happier doing it at speed, simply because it hasn’t got that crawling ability in 1st gear that the Beemers are known for.

I was mostly in 3rd gear up the pass

On one of the last tricky rocky climbs, one of the Beemers stalled in front of me on the riding line. In stead of stopping and waiting for rider to clear the line, I gunned it past him on the left and went up a bit of a step-up and landed on a pointy rock on the other side and wrecked my belly plate in the process. Very peeved with myself about that!

We reached the gate and surely the hard part was now over ....... >  But Thomas had a few more tricks up his sleeve

We had some fresh water that originates from a spring at the gate

Riding into Lekgalameetsi, Thomas took an obscure little path to our left and the technical riding started again

We stopped in the shade and waited for the rest of the group to catch up

With all the banter about KTM reliability on this BMW infested trip, Karma was bound to catch up with Thomas.  > >


The Beemer did not want to start and at first it looked like an electrical fault.

We are going back up there in September to find a way to Lekgalameetse from the Wolkberg.....

Eventually the battery was found to be the problem and the bike was started with the battery from Warren's bike after which Thomas had to keep his motor running for the rest of the day. Jumper cables could not carry enough Amps to jump it.

We spent over an hour next to the trail while the clever guys sorted this out

Eventually got going again and made it to the ruins a bit further up the climb

Liezl also wanted to take pics of the ruins and realised that she had lost her phone where Thomas' Beemer had an issue. She rode back down with a few of the guys while the rest of us proceeded to the grave site up on the koppie
