Oubones’s journey via Kaokoland to a new life!

Bike sorted, at least for half the trip! :peepwall:
Ja, I bought something new for her that really helped.
New 4mm Michelin tubes, no punctures on my whole trip and then had my old tube to help Gordon when he had one. :thumleft:
So I plan to go riding sand the weekend of 25 Feb as I now have an over supply of washers in the worshop about my lack of tackling the sand monster!
Ok, another spanner in the works! The son is off, it is raining on the North Coast and this grandfather is missing his grandkids!
Mud is just wet sand so off we go to Smithfield via the bottom of Lesotho!
At least I will get some seat time in and see how the body keeps up.
It was wet and nice to see the kids, but no sand riding!
Was great to see the kids though and know that their move went well and they have settled!
That was as ready as I could get, so all that was now needed was for me to be loaded from home and trailered to Loxton to join the rest and there we go!
Nope! :patch:

That curve ball!
The fugly burns oil at 5000rpm, but around 4000rpm nothing. That is around 95km/h and also why I did the Lesotho loop with the dakar.
First curve ball is that things work out that I end up giving notice at work on 7 March to finish 5 April! Family conference and no I am still going to Kaokoland!
Ok!
Next curve ball, my transport is not available anymore due to unforseen circumstances and although Hardy offered to fly me up ( That is one hell of a guy) I think they would not be happy if I took my bike as luggage! :imaposer:
No problem, I will ride and meet up with Janco Monday morning somewhere on his way!
So Friday 5 April I finish work and the resposible thing, go on a bike trip!
That should get my head right, boy was I in for a surprise!
Big rush to pack as I now had a long slow trip ahead!
Saturday morning I get on one overloaded bike and set off!
Yip, in the rain! This trip I was so gratefull that I am waterproof as I kept on getting rained on!
I am just gratefull for the farmers!
First day was up Golden Gate, where I went and sat right up in the mountains for so long and thought about that.
Nature had its way with me and I got a restfullness in my heart just to get on the bike and get to a nice spot remembering that I want to take a photo and have the bike tip over when the sidestand just sank away!
First bike down for the trip, and not even there yet!
Sorry for no pics as yet!

Sunday I leave the backpackers after having leftover supper( lovely lamb stew) for breakfast!
Going to my grandkids! :thumleft:
I come around the one corner and a whole field of flowers!
[member=10343]Mev Vis Arend[/member] , Nannie die foto is vir tannie!
I found another couple there and in true manly biker style went and had a photo taken!
First pic: Great food found after dark in Clarens!
Second: Bad biker in Pink Flowers :peepwall:
Last pic: Oupa se kinners! :thumleft: :thumleft:

Pic 1: a longggg bridge!

I had some calls to check on my progress and Hardy explained on the one that there is a small road running paralel to the main road so I sent him this pic and message if this is the right road as it looks a bit small?
I then sat in the shade with a cooly and biltong and waited for his panic call!  :lol8: :sip:

It went something like this! “ You lost or took a wrong turn? Where are you?”
I left the sad place( the concentration camp where some off the children that died there had not even been named!)
Our country has a rich but sad history and after spending time there I can understand why my grandfather died seeing the British as the enemy. Luckily our people are good and we have moved on to a peacefull co-existance!
Pic1: Parked at Wimpy, nice brekkie there.
Pic2: One dirty Klr loaded with the other nice clean bikes!
Pic3: You guessed it, Loxton is wet!
