I grew up riding 2 stroke dirtbikes that were peaky and had narrow power bands. Bob Hannah, remember him, was the first star to make "clutching it" famous as the best technique to get these old bikes onto the pipe quickly. I learnt to ride like this with one finger always on the clutch and one finger on the front brake and still do today.

My XRR still has the stock carb but I think that I have it jetted pretty well. I have to admit that it does have very slight "lack of response" just off idle but only if the throttle is cracked open. Coming back the "clutch it" technique, I ride the XR using the clutch like this and therefore don't have a problem and it is an absolute blast to ride like this!

I'm not sure a 4k or whatever pumper carb is worth it.
