In all fairness, any challenge on our 1st passage of the RtH should have been done within a reasonable time.

Since GJ and myself went, the 4wheel driveclubs have been building a highway of this section. A buddy of mine's Dad did it in 9 minutes with his zimmerframe in one hand and a packet of Niknaks in the other.

With only one leg.

And no shoes.

But he is a very fit 78. :peepwall: :pot:

5 minutes.....did you take a lunchbreak? :pot:

Lunchbreak... :imaposer: :lol8:

now that I'm back 5 minutes does seem like a bloody long time to get up that hill! not making excuse but better a 5 minute slow and cautious than a 5 hour retrieval (especially since it was just be and big brother there) if I messed up one of those corners and threw the bike down the edge of the cliff. Not that it would have hurt the bike (these huskies are indestructable) but it may have hurt my ego.

Ons Klein bikes doen vokal skade

Visiting this area on a bike is very eco friendly

The big problem is all the bonehead clutchplate Dutchman going mal in their bakkies after a few brandy wines  :pot:

You touch a very important issue, the balance between a fast time out of there, and not getting injured.

And the pussy class includes those who do it on anything less than a 650 carrying a full load of luggage (including food and water for a week). If you really want honourable mention it should be on a litre class bike with luggage (extra points for hard cases) and 50/50 tyres.

Only then do you get bragging rights around the braai.

The only thing you will get if you attempt it on a fully laden panniered up 1200 GSA etc is a Darwin award for stupidity

The rider might make it out on his own two legs but the bike will shit itself at the first big step up and piss all its oil into the earth

It would be like taking a swiss army knife to an automatic sub machine gun fight

There are lots of big talkers here with incredible opinions - I only know of 8 people who have successfully done it on a bike and 1 other who was literally towed up.

Let's organise this and have a full blown fucking time trial - no rules - bring whatever - trials bikes, 2 smokes, rally replicas, whatever you got - it will be entertaining

I will bring a salad and a packet of crisps

Lets get all the brave guys to put R1000 into a kitty and head up there. Give each guy two runs and winner takes all the money.

Rules are you have to ride the bike up there and it must be 500cc or more.

I'll sponsor the popcorn.

I'll pillion on the back of GJ's bike and we'll share the prize money.

OK, I propose we leave here, Cape Town area, say Saturday morning very early, do the Hellroad at about lunchtime, and ride back on Saturday afternoon.

Carry all your own stuff, no back-up vehicles allowed.

Leave Cape Town area at about 03H30 Saturday morning and return about 22H00 on Saturdat evening.

Honestly, this should not be more than a day outing.

Remember, the Hellroad only takes 5minutes max, so you have ALL day for the trip.

This will also sort the riding machines out. Let's face it, as much as I would like to bring MiniDan's 300 it would be cheating a bit. So it's me and my XT.

I think it will be cheaper and easier to just EFT the R1000 to GJ and continue to dream about one's own prowess unhindered by a reality check.

The purpose of this thread is to stir things up.

I'm not saying I will beat GJ's time - my first attempt was 6 hours, my second attempt (last week) was 18 minutes (I am horribly overweight and unfit) - it is my brother Aidan that did 5 min 2 sec.

but

if my second run was 95% faster than my first run (18 minutes over 360 minutes = 5% therefore I was 95% faster) then by this same deduction my next and third run will only take 54 seconds ...

GJ and 2SD will be hard pressed to beat that
