Thanks for another great ride R-O-V-Rat! I have been vrot with griep all week and needed to get out for some fresh air.
At the same time I was also looking for an opportunity to have a practice run trying out my new luggage system. The old
bags has had it and I decided to get a Giant Loop saddle bag and tank bag. Loaded them up with my usual 5-7 day travel
goodies, clothes ex. including a tent and mattress.

This morning we enjoyed some beautiful scenery and the smell of fresh damp earth along exiting riding.

Meeting up.

Chit chat.

ROVrat004.jpg

R-O-V-Rat explained before hand what we were to expect but I didn't realize it would be this exciting...
Right at the start of the trail we were confronted with the first formidable obstacle. Andre ,aka Sandban(g)k, negotiating
the washed out stream crossing. With some help...

With some logs in the hole the 800 left the other bikes could pass through easier. Capeklr making his way across.

Yes, thanks a lot for the ride Riaan  :thumleft:

Was lekker seeing some different faces, Michiel and others.

I feel like a train ran over me :eek7: but it was well worth it, learned a lot and got some valuable experience

Ride save, cya at the breede bash next week  :ricky:

Hey Hyde.......
Good of you to ride out with bomber
Pity you missed the rest of the ride
Things got a little tight at times

Just as we thought there is nothing wrong with this world a KTM threw it's rider right out of the saddle!

ROVrat036.jpg

Oh damn! This doesn't look good!

ROVrat037.jpg

What about the bloke on the receiving end of this misbehaving KTM?

ROVrat038.jpg

Not good at all...

ROVrat039.jpg

Ready for a close inspection.

ROVrat040.jpg

ROVrat041.jpg

The culprit.

ROVrat042.jpg

With a, now damaged, gear shift lever.

ROVrat043.jpg

Nice place to crash...

ROVrat044.jpg

ROVrat045.jpg

Ok, he's alive.  :thumleft:

ROVrat046.jpg

Now the real tough stuff started. R-O-V-Rat has posted a picture of this spot but it turned out to be
a bit more intimidating than I expected.

Kamanya leading the way.

Now that almost everybody has made the descent I remembered I had luggage to contend with as well. Oh dear.
I was worried the added weight might cause me to lose control. Will those bags work when the going gets tough?
Well, the proof of the pudding is in the eating of it.

ROVrat055.jpg

But before I could even get going some nutters came back up again...

ROVrat056.jpg

ROVrat057.jpg

This is a steep bultjie with some nasty rocks.

ROVrat058.jpg

ROVrat059.jpg

ROVrat060.jpg

ROVrat061.jpg

I made it to the bottom without incident and the bags held the luggage in position, right where it
was out of my way, out of harms way and right where the bike's handling wasn't affected. Sweet.

We got back to his place at around 1pm. He went to clean up and was planning on popping into the doc quickly. Hats off to him, I could see he was in pain and we rarely went above 100kph riding back to Melkbos.

Thanks for the ride guys.

Tuareg....your record seems to be going strong... :) Luckily no chopper this time!

Riding back with Kamanya and Sandban(g)k we made a quick stop at Macassar.

Now I have to admit. I have a little addiction. Sand. I haven't had a fix in weeks and Kamanya knew just the way to
sort that out. Off we went to sand our air filters!

The Giant Loop luggage worked very well on the mountain but what about the Dunes?

Sandban(g)k looking not bang at all.

ROVrat063.jpg

ROVrat069.jpg

ROVrat070.jpg

Yes, that did look pretty impressive!

ROVrat071.jpg

ROVrat072.jpg

Then Sandban(g)k got stuck. Luckily there were lots of eager hands to help dig him out...  :D

ROVrat076.jpg

This is a very special little hill. It's not your average ascend and has been my frustration for a long time.
And then Kamanya just come and ride up it, just like that...

ROVrat079.jpg

ROVrat077.jpg

ROVrat078.jpg

Pushing your luck.  ;D

ROVrat080.jpg

Now obviously I had to have a go as well. Thanks for the pics Sandban(g)k.

ROVrat081.jpg

Oh. Thought that would happen. Got stuck.

ROVrat082.jpg

With all the excitement Sandban(g)k became not so bang at all.
