The Sunday Ride with a View

I've promised this ride for a while. Last year it did not work out. You need a crisp, clear Sunny day. Today was such a day.

Jaybiker, Mango Jack and I met at the Engen garage and headed on a cold early morning to meet the Out of Towners at the bottom of Van Stadens pass. Hotwire, Difflock, The knuckleheads, Captain Wackhead (sorry Obvious) and some guests Ian, Dirk and Mark. Mark is new to riding and did the ADA DP 1 with us two weeks ago. Today would be a big learning curve for him.

We headed for Wimpy in Humansdorp, where we found R-O-V-Rat and Shirley on their way back home after spendinjg the weekend in PE. After a while Tiger8 turned up.

Along the Onder Kouga to Assegaaibos/Kareedow. Nice road through the valleys which could more aptly be called "The Marble Highway", because that's what you get. And this is where Mark got to practice his newly learned skills and did very well.

From Kareedow over the mountain for coffee at Oudebosch and then up to the Clarkson Radio Towers. You climb 500m, to 740m above see level, in 4km up an interesting little pass for the most spectacular 360 degree view. The highlight of the day.

After filling our sences, and promices from everyone to come back again, it was backroad gravel to Humansdorp and home.

Another pleasant PE ride in good company.

I've done this ride, and parts of it so many times, I've lost count, but I still enjoy it everytime. We'll wait and see what the guys who did it for the first time say.

About 80km of Marble Highway makes you work for your pleasure  :biggrin:

will post pics later this evening, thanks all was a lekka ride, my first time in those "neck of the woods'"indeed a marble highway, but thanks to jules a few weekends ago the confidence was 100% and we all managed well,no mishaps, no whoopsies..

also met another kennedy, denzil (mango jack),lakka to meet bud..

Was nice to meet up with the PE dogs today. Sorry I could not meet everyone personally but we were on a tight schedule to get back to Hermanus before dark. Next time hopefully I can do the complete route with you.

Yup, skating around on 'marbles' gives me the willies more than ruts and mud any day. Still, all part of the fun. Big thanks to Jup and all the guys who rode. As ever, a great day out.

Thanks to Jup & rest of WD pack for an awesome ride. Amazing to get out of office and out in nature + roar of the engines. Thanks for planning this ride to accomadate me. Great meeting new dawgs and new routes.  Weather and views were breathtaking. Thanks too for the patience of frquent fuel stops. 7,5ltr tank was wrong choice for todays ride.
