I've promised this ride for a while. Last year it did not work out. You need a crisp, clear Sunny day. Today was such a day.

Jaybiker, Mango Jack and I met at the Engen garage and headed on a cold early morning to meet the Out of Towners at the bottom of Van Stadens pass. Hotwire, Difflock, The knuckleheads, Captain Wackhead (sorry Obvious) and some guests Ian, Dirk and Mark. Mark is new to riding and did the ADA DP 1 with us two weeks ago. Today would be a big learning curve for him.

We headed for Wimpy in Humansdorp, where we found R-O-V-Rat and Shirley on their way back home after spendinjg the weekend in PE. After a while Tiger8 turned up.

Along the Onder Kouga to Assegaaibos/Kareedow. Nice road through the valleys which could more aptly be called "The Marble Highway", because that's what you get. And this is where Mark got to practice his newly learned skills and did very well.

From Kareedow over the mountain for coffee at Oudebosch and then up to the Clarkson Radio Towers. You climb 500m, to 740m above see level, in 4km up an interesting little pass for the most spectacular 360 degree view. The highlight of the day.

After filling our sences, and promices from everyone to come back again, it was backroad gravel to Humansdorp and home.

Another pleasant PE ride in good company.

Gooi the pics.  :thumleft:
You mean Marbles (round) not Marble you make the road sound smooth

This  ride had me awestruck, from when we left the tar to when I got home. It is amazing how a person can ride the same road a hundred times, and wonder "where does that road go", for me that was the case, I ride through to Kareedouw on tar regularly and always wonder where does that road on the otherside of the river lead.

I was lost, where does this road lead, what little town is that in the distance, it looks so peacefull, I hope we stop there before heading to the coast.......this was all in my mind as I approached a town well known to me, BUT, from a different perspective, unrecognised, it was a "new" and wonderfull place to explore.
How crazy life is, as much as people, places , things, circumstances change, it all boils down to perspective. Where you standing, what are you feeling, this contributes greatly to how one experiences life, sometimes life is really crappy, most times it is really good, what we - and I mean "I" - need to do is sometimes change perspective.

After a really crappy and stressfull week, I wasn't sure I wanted to join this ride, my headspace was well littered with the troubles of others. Des (TigersM8 - not se M8, ne Jup >:D) basically shoved me off knowing I would be better after a ride - this good woman knows me far better than I know myself, besides the fact that she wanted some piece and quiet and the Tiger she was living with was growling too much.

My ride started extra early, I know Jup doesn't like to wait and leaves punctually at 8am, so I was packed and ready, fueled-up and waiting at the spot where the Dogs normally pass by near my home on the way out of town. 8.05am, no one by 8.20am I knew something was wrong, had I missed them? Did the guy's pass-by when I refueled, couldn't have been cause I had done that at 7.30am..........I decided to take a slow ride to the Van Stadens Pass, where I knew that the Uitenhage Dogs would surely be waiting........nope they are missing too. Seems as though my week was doomed to Sunday  :-\

So I decide to ride on my own anyway's, I would go to one place you can always find Jup on the morning of a ride, The WIMPY
If the guy's had passed by the pitstop, I would continue on my way through the countryside on my own, it was after all a lekker day to ride. As I pull-up to the wimpy I see the whole Dog Pound is ready to feed - the day is looking better already. This is where my Perspective on the week changed, for the better.
The dirt worked it's magic on all of us, even the "marbled Highway" was conquered with a laugh and on we ventured on roads close to home but never before travelled, that is adventure.

The highlight of our wandering was definitely the mountain top, 360deg views with a feeling of being on top of the world and looking down on a map, fantastic  :thumleft:

For me a day well spent and shared with good mates, both old and new....

A couple of pics of the day's ride:
1. Viewing the "unknown Dorpie" from the top of the pass
2. The Beast of Burden, in his natural environment.
3. Young Knucklehead, Jason, good lad.
4. Looking into the Kareedouw Valley
5. Hotwire and his ride
6. A peacefull river
7. Assegaaibos Siding

Thanks Dogs it was a pleasure to ride with you boy's, as always.

I'm headed down to SF Bay in December, could I twist your arm (or fill your beer's desires) to do another run like this?

myself and jnr will be in jbay, we live close by... if you have a bike we can also make a plan..

Wow, looks like you guys had a great ride and I slipped up. I'd love to get to know that road.

Well Mel, you'll be in luck as there will be a few return trips methinks. I want to take Des up the Mountain and the K'Heads will do the trip too, White Rhino would like to ride as well, so you can take your pick, or we can go for a ride sometime if you don't want to wait.  :thumleft:
