I find it really interesting to hear what people are looking forward to the most on a tour like this.
Most of the first timers will tell you that they want to see the desert, the elephants and the lions and almost all of them will tell you that Van Zyl's Pass is on the top of their bucket list.
Veterans will say that they return to this place because of how this place makes you feel.
Staff will almost always look forward to the guest's different personalities each finding its place in the dynamics of a bigger group.
It is difficult to explain but a Northern Namibia tour really is something very special.
Places like:
- Khowarib Schlucht
- Van Zyl's Pass and the subsequent Marienfluss with its fairy circles
- The marble rock trail between Rooidrom and Marble Camp and the climb through Rooidrom pass
- Khumib, Hoarusib, Hoanib, Huab and the Ugab riverbeds
- Ganias plains
- Puros and the Puros Canyon
- Crowter trail and Palmwag
- Desolation Valley and Twyfelfontein
- Brandberg and Spitzkoppe
will most certainly manifest in your mind and will make you return every year. There are very few places that will make you feel as small and vulnerable as this place seems to do, every time we visit.
I have very fond memories of great things that happened to great people on our tours and fully understand the staff's sentiments towards group dynamics.
I am super excited about this tour and can't wait to see the South African border gates in my rearview mirror.
@hartebees arrived with the rest of the bikes yesterday and Greg will be here some time this morning.
Today will consist of us packing our own luggage before we turn in for an early night. This time tomorrow our convoy should be en-route somewhere close to Calvinia.
