Great trip guys, MM I was in Sutherland last weekend and saw you DRZ looking all sorry for itself in the garage , hope it is not too serious .  :D

Did you notice the soccer field coming into Riemvasmaak on the left? Another sad story of donar intervention money to uplift local communities being squandered. A soccer field in the desert  WTF...then the local politicians build a vibacrete wall around it so that they can charge an entrance fee...to what? ::)
The tourism entrance building another example....no one ever there. Houses & shacks have sprung up around the donar money but there is no work....false economy.
Everyone sits around waiting for the next handout.....

Nice report & ride guys! :thumleft:

Very nice report, still want to go to Verneukpan.  :)

+1... I really like those orange boots... they have "houding"... if someone with those boots wanted to cut my hair, I would run...  :imaposer:

Is it wise to sleep so close to a bike on the side-stand side....? My KLR has a tendency to fall over if the ground is not rock! ::)

Day 5 (Riemvasmaak to Klein Pella) 252km

We wanted to do cover as much as possible early before the heat sets in, but the road between Riemvasmaak and Vredesvallei stopped us every 5km to take pictures. Just awesome.
At Vredesvallei we stopped for water and drinks at a house dealer, and we set of for Pofadder. Nearing the end of the gravel road before Pofadder was a couple of sandmonsters. If we didn’t know how to ride in sand, this is where we had to learn it and quick.
Jahloepa was so confident in the sand that he overtook some of us. He heard somewhere something about "when in doubt throttle out"

After we removed the sand from our eyes, we stopped at Pofadder for the famous monstrosity of a burger. Really delicious I may add.  Headed out to Pella for pics, and then to Klein Pella for camping @ the river. Lovely spot at the river overlooking Namibia.

Day 6 (Klein Pella to Calvinia) 378km

We heard about the notorious road between Pofadder and Loeriesfontein. Local farmers warned us about the slate “leiklip” that just shreds tyres to bits. “Boetman, as jy daar langs die pad wil slaap en vrek van die dors, dan moet julle daai pad ry” Jonny and I pulled the GPS closer and try to work out an alternate route. The other option was to divert to Springbok and then come down back into the Cederberg. That would set us back a  good couple of km’s, hours and tar driving. We all decide to bite the bullet and go for the faith option, which is actually our only option anyway. We have seen some bad roads along the way, and maybe this will be normal for us.
As we drove on we saw some shredded tyres next to the road and knew this road meant business. Maybe we didn’t cover the really bad patches of slate, but eventually the road eased out to be one of the smoothest we had done sofar, and quickly we were sitting at 80-100kmph
We hit some rain just before Calvinia and we decided not to camp. True Wilddogs!!!!
