SATURDAY
Well Mark Hardy decided to get up real early and within seconds of the local NG Kerk giving us 6 rings, we heard 1x Kaboom start up and give a few revs.
A few sudden coughs and greetings greeted the early morning darkness and slowly people evacuated their tents.
A couple (make it around 5) coffees later, everyone was dressed and raring to go for a ride. Bradleys said he would lead the way up a dirt road to Kardoessie up on Piekenierskloofpas.
The overhung silly took us down the garden path and we had to make a nice big U Turn
It was cold thanks to the very wet mist - riding was a one handed affair - one hand on the throttle, and one hand wiping ones visor to see!
Near the top, it was a spectacular view
I swear I was fighting Bradleys off
Fouriedop true his BMW underpants had to have a pink milkshake to wake him up
The collective then split into two groups - one for looking at flowers (ala Pistonitus Petrus) and one for some more technical riding. And once again we were held up by the DRZ which had to be fixed with his indicators or something coming loose >
Soon we were on the road. The pace was sedate at around 90-100 led by Frohan the local (his family owns a big ol farm in the area). Even so, we lost some people and took Newguy up on his offer to sweep. This next pic could be entered into a caption contest :deal:
A short rest break
Next off, we had some interesting times. There were intermittent longish sandy patches on the road that if you werent alert, could throw you off the bike, or at the very minimum give your heart a good race by taking the front wheel where it pleased. We were going just slow enough to make it slightly difficult - an extra 20-30km/h would have been perfect to make short work of the sand.
Nivea had Jo on the back of the bike and the sand made it quite hard for him. It made him do this
The group rejoined over here at Frohans family farm
After taking some time to clean Niveas pants up, meet Frohans family on the farm, and get his cousin to bring the video camera with >

we set off to have some fun in the sand.
And fun it was. Lets say that some had more fun than others

I dont have pics for that section, but a good number of folk made it through, particularly 007 on his big ol 120000GSADV.
We then resplit the group with only 5 bikes keen to go and do the 4x2 course - according to Frohan the 4x4 course was too steep as he had flipped his mountainbike trying to ride up the thing. Sadly though, the guy wanted to charge us R50 a pop to ride the course and we werent having any of that. So we turned around to head home.
It was a very good thing, as my SE floated home on absolute fumes. How it managed to do 40 kays on reserve - two up - is evidence of the new jetting kit - at 90-100km/h it became as economical as my old Dakar!

8)
We refreshed ourselves at the bar, and Nivea grew some orange fuzz on his face
Durtseeker had a fall on the sand and hurt his shoulder muscles but could still hold a beer with that arm >
Nivea dronk and tired, Newguy really trying to make a brutal point and I was just hungry, eyeing the packet of peanuts in his hand
And then the Barrel Race practice began...... enter the KTM 690 :deal:
Mr Big doing the bike justice!
Hmm the wall seemed a bit close
the poor XCountry...........
The Paddler

ot:
this 690 lifted its front wheel off the ground so easily it scared me! Trying to keep the front down and apply some power...
Fidel and good style
Nivea improving all the time...... this lad has come far in a short time! woohoo!
RACE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! :deal:
We all a picka numbers - Wannabee was called in to write the tickets out, but my goodness that boy wrote hieroflippingglyphics!
The supporters
I must add that most of the racing lads were a little oiled by now.... the AllBlacks dominance and warm Saturday arvie sun had set some mellow moods, and racing well.... was gonna be racing..
Mr Big goes for one more practice run
I grab a quickie too - trying the 690 out had spoiled me nicely, and coming back to the extra 60kgs of the SE required a big adjustment...
Fidel and I line up - and I beat him around the first post, but from there on, he
systematically hands me a nice lesson on sorting a 640 around the course. :deal:
In this photo, Fidel is already on his way to the next pole!
Nivea and Mr Big line up and Mr Big stalls the bike, which gives Nivea a clean win!
Nice!
Newguy giving it horns
Newguy just has the edge on MrBig
Fidel with great style, takes the first return post
It was flipping close though - Newguy was very very very close!!!
Festivities over, time to park the bike
Bradleys is overcome with emotion and decides to give me a good rodgering

atch:
The only problem is........... I didnt feel a thing! :deal: When he left, all I could do is writhe with laughter at the size of "IT"
After this, we had a slow race which was easily won I must admit - after just 2metres its all over :imaposer:
The funniest thing was Mark Hardy and Bradleys - sitting backwards, a beer in each hand, and legs splayed to the outside - all on a bike which had a signboard of a numberplate saying: GO GIRL
:imaposer:
Then the night festivities got underway and after the AWESOME PRIZES were given away, we all heard a familiar 640 crank up and drive into the bar.
Fidel tried to do a burnout but his legs got in the way and asked me to help out - its not everyday you get the opportunity to rev someone elses bike and do a burnie in a bar :mwink:
The party was a bit subdued that night, with lots of tender livers and heads, and aching tired muscles........................ the next morning would see no 6am LC8 alarm clock fer sure :deal:
