I was chatting bikes (as one does) with a man cutting trees, and he let slip that he had a 1977 XT500D lying under a tarpaulin behind his workshed, waiting for the day his son would take it over and restore it. About 2 years later, and after a bit of nagging, he realised his son wasn't interested so he dumped it in my garage while I wasn't home. It's in very nice condition generally. The last mechanic was a bit enthusiastic about gasket sealer and the carb needs a bit of TLC. The Cowley exhaust sticks out to far, but then they all did. The tank is a bit dented but surprisingly good inside. If anyone has a fuel cap, that would be a great help.  Altogether pretty chuffed, and would welcome any advice/help.
