Hi
I recently bought a 2nd hand 660 Tenere. On the 2nd day of ownership I got a serious tankslapper on a dirt road and put the bike down at high speed. I am looking for opinions on why this happened and if/when it happens again, how to deal with it.
Here are the facts:
About me: I had an Africa Twin for 10 years and did 100k km on it. I never had this issue. I consider myself experienced on dirt. I weigh about 70kgs
About the bike:
2010 660 Tenere, 7k km on the clock. New Metzler Tourance front and rear, on road pressures, had 3 Yamaha panniers on the back, not too heavily loaded, heavy stuff was in the side panniers. Was doing about 100km/h
About the road and the accident:
Was a straight dirt road, lots of loose marbles, snaking started after I came through a sharp dip (enough to compress the suspension) and got onto the marbles. See attached pic. Damage was R52k.
I would appreciate any advice from other 660 owners if they have experienced similar issues.
