MY 1ST EC BASH, BUT NOT THE LAST

After we voted on Wednesday, we left East London for Cradock. The idea was to show David my area when I was a child . . . .

It was Dutchman81's birthday, so we stopped at his place for a coffee and chocolate cake - thanks again Rocco. The thing with David and I is that we always change the route as we go and today was no exception. After Bedford we headed towards Klipfontein where my uncle was a teacher at a farm school for more than 25 years. From Klipfontein we headed towards Witmos, over the mountain to Cradock via Mortimer.

First of all I want to say that 99% of the photo's were taken by David and not by me.

The building that was the house and hostel for many kids years ago. You cannot see the school from where we are.

After Witmos we took this 2 spoor road to Mortimer.

Just as we arrived in Cradock, it started to rain. The plan for the following day was to go to Baroda, Visrivier Station and then work our way towards Nieu Bethesda and Dorsland, but the rain caught us as we joined the road towards Graaff Reinet.

Everything is ready to go, but I forgot my hand gloves in the house. Unlock every gate again and go and look for it - EISH!!!

Close to Baroda.

The further we ride, the colder it gets.

Another day in Africa.

We stopped to eat and for the rain to go past us - as said - IT WAS COLD

Was 15jaar laas op Motimire toe OVK nog die lusern daar gemaal het vir die Veevoer fabriek op Queenstown, hoe lyk dit nog daar?

During the night it rained again and I started to make plans to go to the bash via Graaff Reinet - all tar. David told me that out of experience he knows that the roads get dry very quickly. OK - then we take the original route . . . .

From Cradock towards Swaershoek it was easy. This was taken on top of Swaershoek, just before you go down towards Pearston / Somerset East.

Somewhere between here and there.

Don't know what the name of the pass is, but it is before Pearston.

I waited and waited at the bottom of the pass, but when I went back to see where David was, I was greeted by this.

Diffie - die plek lyk maar nog soos altyd. Hulle was besig om te stem toe ons daarverby sleep. Nie seker of die Kooperasie nog oop is nie.

I'm not a person who would like to be part of stats, so I visited Bie for a very nice coffee. He gave us a nice route towards Steytlerville, and yes - it was a beautiful scenery.

We met Fireboy and Darrel in Steyterville (was planned like that).

Dorsland.

Vanaf Cradock ry jy by die skougronde uit na Mortimer se kant to vir seker 4 kilos. Draai dan regs oor die spoorlyn na Swaershoek en volg die pad vir seker so 50 kilos waar jy regs moet draai en dan ry jy Pearston toe.
