    I was not expecting this!

My rear rim cracked and my front rim was showing serious signs of corrosion, so I thought I'd bite the bullet and get both replaced. Took them to Hagon which is up the road (ish) from me and they convinced me that the corrosion on the front rim could probably be polished out. Since there's...

    El cheapo Airhawk solution

Before I continue it has to be said that I have been accused of putting the "Poor" in Pooratech. Just refer to my solution to the problem with the gear lever and shaft.... Anyway, we've just came back from a 3,000km trip through Europe. I did it on my AT which is not exactly renowned for it's...

Salt-covered roads and crap alloy don't mix!!

My AT's rear rim cracked today due to corrosion caused by the salt they put on our roads in winter. Looking at about £250 for a new rim & stainless spokes. Not impressed... BTW, I know it's a long shot but is this fixable?

Problems with gear lever & shaft

The splines on my gear lever and the shaft has gone. Replacing the shaft will probably involve a complete engine strip which I don't see as an option right now. Which leaves welding the lever to the shaft. Is that the only option? I does seem kinda final and will probably not complement...

Something's missing.... Oh yes, it's the rest of my bike!!

Got up this morning to find this.... That's right, the bastards unbolted the front wheel of my KLR and took the rest of the bike. Now come the hassle of dealing with the insurance company and the bigger one of worrying when they're coming back for the AT or the stuff in the house...

KLR C-model forks and caliper on A model

I'm seriously toying with the idea of fitting the front end from a C model onto my A model. Definitely the caliper but also thinking of replacing the forks. Is this a straight swap or would I need to change the triple clamps etc. too?

    Best tool for the job?

I need to cut my original screen for the AT to make it fit my KLR. What is the best tool for the job? The screen is quite a hard perspex.

Front end troubles on the AT

And the saga continues.... The front end of my AT feels very loose in the bends. This started after I'd replaced the steering head bearings. I did everything according to the Hayes manual including adhering to the torque settings. When I asked my local mechanic he recommended loosening the...

    She's drinking like a fish!

Got my AT on the road again after a 6 month lay-off. Part of the problem was that the choke was playing up which I figured was the reason for the bad fuel consumption. I have now disconnedted the chokes and blanked them off but I'm still only getting 150 miles to a tank whereas I was expecting...

    $%^& useless piece of copper!!

I'm in the process of checking the valves on the KLR. What a PITA!! Shees, you have to dismantle half the bike! Anyway, I was trying to unplug the gauge wire, circled in red in the photo below, at the bottom of the radiator and I swear I hardly touched the thing and the pin broke off. This...

AT & KLR: How many miles?

I need to sell one of my bikes. Unfortunately I can't base the decision on which one to keep purely on which bike I like better so I'm trying to get an idea of what the life expectancy of the two bikes are likely to be. My AT has 89k kilos on the clock and the KLR 25k. None of them has given me...

What determines a bike's service intervals?

I've been wondering about this for a while. I know the state of tune plays a role as well as the oil capasity but when you compare the KLR and the Africa Twin, which are both in a very mild state of tune and their oil capasity is virtually the same (2.5l for the KLR and 2.6l for the AT) there...

    AT (RD07A) v XR650R shock

My AT's shock is moer toe. I can get an almost new shock off an XR650R but need to know whether it will be a suitable replacement for the AT. Anybody done this before?

How not to adjust the handlebars - a crash report now with pics

Apologies to the members who can't understand English Afrikaans. An abbreviated version is at the bottom. Hoe om nie die handlebars reg te buig nie... So paar weke gelede het ek off-road gery, n draai onderskat, reguit gehou en toe amper die voorwiel verloor toe ek hard briek om te verhoed dat...

Something for LS - Is this the ultimate Monkey Bike?

Knobblies and an inline 4 cylinder and all.... Previously read that the guy built the engine himself. https://thekneeslider.com/archives/2008/05/30/honda-125cc-inline-4-cylinder-monkey-bike/

    Playing in the Sand Pit

Maverick and I finished a quality afternoon spannering on our bikes after which I headed off to go play in a newly discovered disused sand pit. I did invite Maverick but unfortunately he couldn't make it. A plastic bike is probably more suited to this terrain but I'm sure the satisfaction of...

What now?? AT dumping it's fuel

My bike suddenly devided to start dumping it's fuel all over the place whilest parked up for no apparent reason. I last rode it yesterday afternoon but when I got to it this afternoon there was a fair amount of fuel all over the place - it was definitely not leaking about 2 hours before. It...
