I ran into a German guy (Damien) today in Strand.
He just came in solo through Africa from Germany - left mid November.

Rides a 91 TransAlp 600 - with some mods.
(Like an AT tank etc.)

His Showa shock gave in en route (somewhere in Kenia) and left him stranded. He managed to source another shock but it was too short and a bit soft. Meant he had to do 3000k's at rather slow speeds.

I took him to a couple of places to see if the (old) shock can be serviced - but we learned that it wont be possible as the nitro chamber is sealed.

He's considering leaving the bike here at a friend to use when he comes back in a year. (BTW if he can sort out the Carne de Passage issues & insurance this could be a 'rental' opportunity for guys like Jaqhama).

But before he goes back end next week he would like to fix and service the bike a bit.

SO does anybody know of an affordable second hand shock?
It HAS to be for the 91 models though. (ELse it's too short).
Bike Hospital quoted R2k. (Damien can probably get one from Germany for around R500). But it would be nice to finish the job before leaving..
