I have not posted in any of these threads yet, so I guess it's time. I have some people to thank for a great time:
- Alex, Marissa, Cobus and all the rest of the organizers: ******* well done on a great event!
I was really impressed at the level of professionalism, good spirit and all round relaxed feeling of "don't
worry 'bout a thing they got this sorted!"
- Photographers, holy **** they were everywhere and they got all the good stuff. I remember cruising behind Kamanya
on the first day, and suddenly a wild photographer appeared out of nowhere - I almost **** my pants when I saw how he
handled the situation - massive slide around the corner! And he did not have even half a second to make the decision!
I followed with a smaller, slower version of his awesome slide.
I wish they took this picture 2 seconds later:
- Kreef: We trailered our bikes up from CPT together, had an awesome time and were both giddy as schoolboys about this
thing. Its a pity the results didn't show exactly how it went down. He finished hours before me both the days - no
idea how he ended up being almost last (??!!?). Not possible.
(PS: They should hire a data analyst to handle this, I could have helped!)
- Andrew (Kamanya): Thanks for adding me to your RR. It didn't exactly feel like a holiday to me though, maybe if
Murphy stayed at home, but the little ****** had to tag along. Enjoyed your company as always. Thanks for getting up
way too early to hotwire my bike! I knew I could depend on you to get things done.
- KTM Cape town: Thanks for breaking my BMW so I can get fuel in!
- Pleco: I have a massive amount of respect for you after this. I wish I can be like you one day when I grow up! Thanks
for borrowing me your handpump when I had a flat.
- Darthvader (Robert): We did a lot of the preparation for the event together, debated about the best ways to change the
bikes, did some practice on difficult roads (a lot worse than the event) and even tried to follow a roadbook I made from
mapsource route info. He was going incredibly fast on the first day and did really well up until a point where he had a
massive crash. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but he broke off his (newly designed) nav tower, punched a hole in his
gearbox and broke a few ribs. After this he continued to do a lot of km's of the special until he met up with me where I
had a puncture. Respect.
- Murphy: Thanks for leaving my bike keys on the ground at Kreef's house, giving me 3 lovely punctures, and of course
holding my axel nut for me while I was franticly crawling around in the dirt for an hour clearing about 5 by 5 meter of
farm of anything remotely resembling a bmw rear axel nut. Oh and you can keep the Jerry can.
I acutally got a prize for having a lot of issues, and you know what? I lost the gift voucher
already. :confused2:
