… but before I get to the answer, a little story about our trip last week. Leaving home on Sunday (20th) and returning more than a week later. Our little Karoo adventure.
The riders:
Myself, with mini-me as pillion. And 3 very full pannier boxes.
Pieter, with his better half.
Renier and his better half.
Hennie
and Frans, Hennie’s brother.
Day 1.
Shosoloza Meyl. Ride to JHB train station, load our bikes on the train, and chill in the compartment until we reached Worcester… about 1200km away, close to Cape Town. As we had booked accommodation for all the nights we did not bring any bedding, so rented some for the train too. The last time I rode in a train was when I returned to camp after some army R&R, and the absence of bedding at the time while travelling north through Namibia for 4 days was not an altogether happy memory. But, this time I had bedding, all was good. Trains get quite cold at night.
