Dwerg and I missed the Elly

It is now mid day and the heat is intense. We are back in the Hoarusib River and the going is tough in the hot white sand. Dwerg ran out of water (and also lost his sense of humor) and was swearing at me from behind as I made one navigational mistake after the other. He dropped the DR in the sand and was just about ready to strangle me with his bare hands when I offered him some water. We were hot, probably dehydrated and in serious need of a beer.

The giraffes were really upset with Dwerg's crude use of the afrikaans language

We stumbled across the campsite and I quickly realised that Dwerg would not survive another 10 minutes without a beer. We asked for directions to town and listened with half an ear which resulted in us getting lost on the wrong side of the river and I was now in serious danger of being killed by a younger sibling. The only structure we could see was the very fancy Okahirongo Elephant Lodge up on the hill.  We rode up to reception and the staff seemed very confused when we asked where the town is. They pointed over my shoulder and there lay the bustling metropolis of Puros on the opposite side of the river. I felt very stupid and Dwerg probably mumbled some insults out of earshot.

Truth is I expected something that at least resembled a little town, not the collection of shacks on the eastern side of the river. We thank them and raced to Manchester FC Tavern


Trevor and Hannes joined soon after, not having been on the same sightseeing tour I took Dwerg on..... ot:

We head back to camp when the rest start arriving and start sorting out stretchers. Crazy swarms of mozzies emerge from the stone wall as we start setting up and Dwerg and I end up putting our stretchers in the middle of camp, away from walls and vegetation which could be harbouring  these irritating beasts
