We would be taking "The Long Way Round" to Brandberg. We could see Brandberg most of the day, but it seemed we were just riding further and further away from it.

cant wait for more pics of this day...  this route will be new to me as we pretty much went directly south to brandberg from where your  "wilddogs day 10" banner is.

We find a nice tree to sit under and wait for the rest. A lot of time passes and we now contemplate heading back to make sure everyone is fine.

Out of the blue an old Landy drive past and ask if we're ok? We give him a thumbs-up and he heads off. Not a minute later a Cruiser comes by. Again makes sure that we're fine and then offers us a beer. Dwerg nearly fell over his feet running to that Cruiser.....

These were the only vehicles and people that we saw that day, other than the group.

We finish the beers and decide to head back. Just as we start riding, the group appears in the distance. We ride for a while and stop under a tree for some shade. There is a discussion about how we should be riding for the rest of the day. Waiting for the backup vehicle might be something to consider as they have no backup. My feeling is that we will never complete the route before dark if we have to wait for the backup vehicle.

The backup vehicle arrives and Willie sets up the Drone as we are now entering the Valley of Desolation, one of the most spectacular places I've seen in my life.....

The riding is excellent with mixture of very course riverbed and rocks. I ride up ahead and having a great time when suddenly I hit powdery white sand that dissappears into the thick vegatation that seemingly appeared out of noting. The thick sandy track snakes it way through the reeds and Ana trees. When it straightens out eventually I stop, assuming that the rest of the guys would struggle on the heavier bikes. I wait around for what seems like forever again. Silence is deafening and looking around me, I'm in a dodgy spot all on my own. Loads of animal spoor around,.

I head back eventually and find the guys fixing a flat on Dwerg's DR

As jy vir 'n uur onder 'n boom sit in die middel van nerens en iemand bied uit die bloute 'n koue bier aan dan hol jy maar. Selfs as dit Coke was sou ek nogsteeds 'n draf stappie aan geknoop het  :biggrin:
