Day 10 - Personal highlights
"Short story"
On our way to Brandberg (different route that the riders took) I saw a cosy little thatch building next to the road.
I pulled of and walked in.
In the middle of Damaraland I found the nicest little coffe shop with a proud shop owner that had "ILLY" Coffee and "krimpvarkies" (chocolate cake sprinkled with coconut) for sale.
I ran out of the coffee shop to stop the crew behind me, as I shouted to Marina (I think that was her name) that I will be back soon. The crew was riding blind as neither of them had a track or a gps with them, which meant they had to follow me to get to camp.
Steff pulled off, and I told him about this new secret gem that I found.
Very excited, he pulled his helmet of, just in time to see Janco riding past us, as if he did not see us.
We realised that Janco's head was in Pretoria at that stage, and that he was going to take the wrong turnoff, which will cause problems.
At that point I realised that we would have to chase Janco down, and forego the coffee and cake.
15 minutes later I caught up with him, and as he stopped, not knowing how he got in front of us, his pivot bolt snapped, which caused the chain and rear wheel to seize.
He was averaging 110kph 30 seconds before it happened, and could have hurt himself badly, had we not caught up with him.
I will never forgive Janco for the coffee incident.
The look on Hannes's face when I told him there was lions on the track that they were about to ride on.
The look on Steff,'s face when his pants went missing, after he went for a swim at the lodge's pool in his jockstrap.
The look on the overseas visitors face when Steff climbed on his bike, in his jockstrap.
The sound Steff made when he realised how hot his bike's seat was, without his pants on.
The satisfaction of knowing everyone made it through a very tough day, safely
