Turbulence behind cars

As I was riding home yesterday on the N2 on my slow padbike with the kak suspension, I inevitably got stuck behind queues of cars where overtaking is unsafe. I noticed that the turbulence behind certain cars/suv's/vans varies a lot. Fortuners are the worst, it is so bad that you cannot keep your head straight. The Isuzu version (I think they call it the MUX) is not as bad as the Toyota. Hiluxes are also bad but the Ford Rangers not so much. Bot the worst I got was the Ford Transit. It was actually kind of scary.

Anyone share the same experience?
