well well well, were do I start, if it gets boring please inform me.

I have spend allot of time on my "Donkey", replacing and fixing parts, running her every Sunday on all types of dirt roads, doing between 200 and 400 km stretches, with a last minute burn of 650 km. This was planned to increase my riding fitness and checking reliability issues.

I also did some cycling, on my dirt jump BMX  :pot: and hung around on my pull up bar every evening.

In the interim my house got sold and the packing started, as we have to move mid May. Business also had to get some attention, with the last blow in the planning being, I lost my lift on a trailer down to Sutherland. Thankfully Firecoast gave my number to Schalk and so I was ready to go.

Working out the costs for this event I noticed my funds, with all the other money I make going to those dawn "prokerowers" for the new house deal, I came up with a plan to sell some advertising space on my bike, punting it as one of the Oldest bike at the rally.

Not forgetting Stoettie and some chaps who's names were never released to me. to help with the entry fee

A massive thanks has to go out to Touratech S.A, Boogertman + Parners Architects and Blond Productions. Off Road cycles also helped out with some electrical advice, oils and a new rear tyre.

The nerves were at me on Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in me leaving my roadbook markers and pens at home.

A pic of the bike after all the stickers were fitted.

Sub. Bike is lookin good mike  :thumleft:

isn't that the seat that that guy in the USA complained about?

looking forward to the rest

so left my place in Pta at around 14:00 on wednesday, popped past Touratech to pick up one of those Michnus stretchers, had a good cup of coffee and ended up at Schalk's place @17:00. We went out for dinner at the local pizza place, came home, and packed the bikes.
That night I slept like a "dead" baby, which was the last time I would sleep good till I got home on Monday.

Thursday morning @05:00 we sped of out of JHB setting the speed control on the Hilux on 122km/h. From Bloemfontein till Sutherland it rained, and this only signaled that the Amageza had more surprises up her sleave!

Not stopping much, driving like race car drivers we made Sutherland @18:45, only 15 min late for the qualifiers briefing, you see Schalk still needed to qualify. The rest of the evening was good food, beer and sleeping in the hostels. I think the kids in the hostel are not liked by there teachers, those beds are foooking k@k.

more to follow!

This was a long weekend, so you will have to wait!  :pot: :pot: :pot: :pot:

Mike, the bike looks good with those stickers! Makes it look like a hard core racer  ;)

It makes me wonder, will the new watercooled R1250GS have 6 wheel nuts on the rear? The airheads had 3, the oilheads 4, the 1200's have 5........ Hijack off

This guy gives helmet hair a real new meaning.

But boy can he ride!  :ricky:

Hey Mike - It was really good to meet you @ the Amageza. Your baby is such a looker and you proved that she can ride too!! I am still waiting for Sprocketbek's pic of you jumping that last rock on top of Broekskeur pass - will be my new screensaver.

Looking fwd to the rest of the RR - hopefully you took some pics as well?

So Thursday evening i start talking to one of the "Riding gods" Neil aka "BlueBull' and we decide to do a bit of a shake down run Friday morning. As i'm always keen  on a ride, it sounded like a plan! After that it became a bit hazy and I woke up @ 08:00 with a bit of a dry mouth. :eek7:

Woke up looked out the window, i heard this 4 stroke riding up and down, with Neil riding and fiddling and riding and fiddling. A bit late for our arranged meeting time I got my gear out and saddled up, riding thru this massive town I actually struggled to find Neil's house, until I saw the beast parked outside a small stone home!

It's always impressive seeing these kind of bikes on the net, but in real life they are even better.

:pot: it took Neil only seconds to put on his riding gear and we went riding, well actually he went riding up this nice twisty dirt road and I only followed way behind, drooling and noticing that I may be out of my league, chasing these 450 bikes. He disappeared so fast that it felt like I was riding alone again! At the top, like a real Gentleman he waited, but now I had to lead with him following, testing his helmet cam.

His last words were, on you own pace and no pressure, yea right, no pressure! I hope I get to see a bit of that video footage.
