Still I am still amazed at the reaction to it even though it was in the company of ADV's and the big KTM's.
Dude, that bike is a legend !
The XR was the 1st offroad bike that I noticed with envy EVER.
None of the guys that was with us the weekend are posers.
Uiltjie and LGF have KTM's because that's the bike they want to have for their needs, not because they want to prove something. Same goes for the GSA's. I ride a 1100GS because that's the only bike that I could afford at the time that have good two up capabilities on gravel. (And I like the jugs, what can I say ...)
And as Trailrider has shown more often than not, his bike is perfect for what he does. He could have gotten a Transalp if he wanted to (in fact if it was up to his wife he would have gotten one in April already ...)
Point is - your bike got the response it did because secretly all of us would love to have a bike that borders on 'motocross style' like yours, with all the power that comes along with a 650.
I can imagine that I'll be hooligan 95% of the time if I had a bike like yours. I did enjoy my side of the trip immensely, but there is just certain things that (even only one up) I would not want to do with the big GS. And if I do, there's still a difference between doing something and enjoying it, smiling in your helmet and doing something while going 'whooohooo' in your helmet grinning like the chesire cat ...
And when all is said and done, its about seeing the 'cool factor' in riding buddies' bikes instead of trying to find in what ways they are 'inferior'...
