01 August 2021

The after effects of the previous night were clear as the group of young men were preparing to leave. Fortunately, I did not stay until the end and got to bed at a sensible time, considering my age.

There were many full bins as evidence of the extent of their fun time. I have all their names and contact numbers, but what happens at Goudkop, stays at Goudkop.

I don't really want to comment on the Detox part of the Goudkop sign.

Then I had the whole place to myself and went on a little exploration trip.

The cleaning team had not been in yet, and you could see that the boys were in town, but the photos give a better perspective of the facilities.

Goudkop is an amazing place as it is, but there was so much more to my stay here.

I had briefly met Hennie Van Zyl at Oewerbos, on the Namibian border, and he offered me accommodation at Goudkop on his farm, which I gladly accepted, but I was not prepared for the full extent of his generosity.

The staff at the farm stall, Skrik van Rondom, on the farm, contacted me and asked me what I would like for supper. I wanted to braai and was invited to the farm stall to come and select what I wanted to put on the fire, and off I went.

Upon arrival, I was informed that Oom Hennie had contacted them, and whatever I wanted, was to be put on his account. That just blew my mind. A complete stranger had made the decision to bless me to this extent.

So, it was something I never had before, Chicken Skilpaadtjies and then Lamb Chops, rolls, potatoes from the farm and they chucked in some home made Cheese Cake.

Oh, and a cooler box filled with ice and beer. And more fire wood that I could ever use for 1 braai.

Got the fire going and started preparing what was going to be a feast of note

So many beautiful places to see and such generosity from awesome people and companies. Loving it . Thank you .

At awe of the blessings and kindness you received on this trip..makes one believe in people again....with all the negative stuff in the world

Appreciate you sharing  :thumleft:

The view from the main building is spectacular.

As the sun was heading for the horison, the smoke was drifting into the sky and the whole ambience of the place started changing.

I had access to the kitchen, where the potatoes were boiled, the fire was ready, braai time and I enjoyed some fine SA cuisine.

It was time to leave Goudkop and head for Cape Town.

Sticker no 71 went up with an amazing view from the Lodge.

Then it was off down to the farm stall.

The previous day, I went to the petrol station to fill up, but despite their working hours sign, they were closed and I barely made it back to Goudkop, Matilda actually died on me about 300m from the farm stall. A bit of shaking and she started and got me to the chalet.

I spoke to the staff at the farm stall and they said that they will organise some fuel for me.

So, when I got to the farm stall, Jerry had 2 x 2l bottles of fuel which he put in Matilda.

Skrik van Rondom Padstal, I have no idea where the name came from.

I was told that there was no bill, all expenses paid for. Thank you Hennie.

The staff were amazing, Anja, Jerry and Toela.

Sticker no 72 was put up on the entrance display cabinets.

So there might be a few more photos than normally required, but when you experience the absolute generosity of the people involved with what I experienced here, you want people to know where to go, to support an establishment that has heart and soul, so please bear with me.

The photo of the hill, is where some gold was found, hence the name Goudkop.

And then there were some Eland on the way out.

I could get lost out there on the open road and be perfectly content with that. Why is that?
Really appreciate you taking the time to share this ride and the personal journey
Its bookworthy, for so many reasons.
