Hardy is absolutely right the DR (even being almost 10 years old, high mileage and a little beat up) started every morning and took me through the toughest parts of the trip and I will be forever grateful to sweetest Ri for offering it to me  :thumleft:

But if you ask me whether I would have enjoyed the trip more if I was on my 450 (or 690) for the entirety of it? Absolutely, no question. Partly because with the DR it was constantly in the back of my mind that I was riding someone else's bike and needed to look after it accordingly. But mostly because of weight and suspension. Outright power is seldom required on a trip like this and both the 450 and DR had plenty.

But let's get back to the report. The riding gets better and better from this point.

Ek verskil van Hardy in die opsig. Die trip was vir my oor bikery eerste. Waar anders kan jy 300km tweespoor op ń dag ry sonder om ń enkele persoon of voertuig te sien? Soms ry jy etlike kilometer sonder dat die landskap verander. Dit was by tye baie tegnies en ek gee nie om wat jy ry nie, daar is nie dan  kans vir sightseeing nie. Ons het egter baie gestop, genoeg vir my om amper 2000 fotos te neem.


Die 501 vra om hard gery te word, hy smeek jou amper en as jy sy oor draai sê hy dankie met thrilling ride. Dit geld vir enige enduro tipe bike.

Ek en Dwerg het hard gery, maar vloeiend gery en verseker  nie resies gejaag nie. As daar iets mooi was om te sien het ons gestop en die natuurskoon geniet. Ek weet nie wie gaan verantwoordelikheid aanvaar vir tailslides nie, ek sal nooit so iets doen in Nam nie......[emoji48][emoji48][emoji48]

Ek dink Frans wou weet of die 250's die trip gemaklik sal kan doen. En jy lieg soos 'n tandetreker oor die tailslides...

Frans kom join ons vir 'n bier een dag dan kan ons lank gesels oor die positiewe en negatiewe van alby opsies.

Hardy en Noneking se argumente is alby geldig. Om eenvoudig jou vraag te antwoord, ek dink nie my ondervinding sou veel verskil het op 'n 250 teenoor die DR650 nie. 250 behoort maklik die trip te kan voltooi.

Ek is seker die 250 klas sal 'n jol wees! My argument het meer gegaan oor hoe stadig mens deur Kaokoland moet ry....... ;D

Everybody pulls off and I see that [member=18545]Ri[/member] is still putting her kit back on. Not too sure how far behind [member=19649]Hardy de Kock[/member] and the vehichles are, I decide to hang around and wait for her to ride on before I get on my bike. I take a few pics, have a snack and then get going again.

Sand is proper in certain areas and the signs of bikes snaking over the middleman every few hundred metres. Not long after there is another spoor across the middelman and into a thornbush next to the road. A few metres further lies [member=18545]Ri[/member] next to her bike. It was lying on top of a young tree which had snapped due to the impact. She was obviously in pain and after picking up her bike, I help het to find a spot in the shade to lie down. Tears start flowing when she puts weight on her right foot en there is a grinding sound when she moves her ankle. We carefully remove her boot and there is already some swelling around her right maleollus/outside of ankle. Blood runs down her cheek from the encounter with the thorn tree.

[member=18545]Ri[/member] is one tough cooky though and after a few minutes of rest she kits up again. I give a few pointers on sand riding (talk about the blind leading the blind)  and she pulls off into the tweespoor snaking across the middelman. I take a couple of pics again and when I'm happy that she has covered some ground I get going again

A few minutes of sitting was enough to leave a lasting mark.... but that 501 is so comfortable in an attacking standing position, I could (and did) do it all day.

As I come round the first bend, [member=18545]Ri[/member] is lying next to her bike again. I stop and help her up again. At that moment the back up vehicles arrive and Gene asks me to move on as [member=19649]Hardy de Kock[/member] and the sweepers are on their way.

Lots of sand and river crossings make for an awesome ride. It takes a while to catch up with the rest of the guys

Dankie vir die report en mooi fotos.  Wat 'n voorreg om so deur Namibia te toer.

Hoop om bietjie van die "stadiger" manne se fotos ook te sien.

Wil nie se^ nooit nie - Nooit is 'n baie lang tyd.  Maar 'n 250 sal nie sommer my fiets keuse vir so trip wees nie.  Te lief vir speel  :thumleft: Dan ry ek eerder my bergfiets.
