Dwerg's 450 decided that it had had enough. No more!
Dwerg was devastated. We stopped to wait for backup vehicles. [member=18545]Ri[/member] had to give up the ride due to her injury and was kind enough to offer her purple monster to Dwerg for the rest of the trip. I for one was very relieved as I would have hated to see Dwerg on the bakkie for the duration of this adventure.

None of them realised that I had run out of petrol and I was left stranded next to the road. The backup vehicles were still on their way though and we ended up taking fuel from the 450 on the bakkie to get me going again

I spent just over an hour next to the road. I was just over 40 minutes behind Hardy and the team when I eventually got going again. I was riding like a madman to catch up.

Meanwhile the rest of the guys hit Heartbreak hill. This is a seriously rocky climb that took most of us by surprise. Respect to the Quest participants who went up there on the big bikes.

When I eventually arrived I stalled the 501 as I came round the corner. Corrected my line and opened up the 501, then chose the incorrect line and jumped and hopped over all the big rocks. Barry was standing at the top and I ran him over on my way to the crest.  I would have been dead on anything else  ;)

So what was the issue right in the beginning with the flat battery on the Huskey? I recall you said something about Gps wiring...assume it was sorted. That 501 sure is the best looking bike on this tour!

[member=19649]Hardy de Kock[/member] , Janco and Steff arrived and I was really relieved. II was taking photos and gesturing with my right hand for them to stop. Hardy and Janco rode past. Steff took his hand of the throttle in an attempt to high five me and nearly hit the deck in the sand  :imaposer: :imaposer: :imaposer:

None of them realised that I had run out of petrol and I was left stranded next to the road. The backup vehicles were still on their way though and we ended up taking fuel from the 450 on the bakkie to get me going again

NoneKing really puts effort into taking pictures. As I rode towards him, I saw his bike was parked outside of the track and thought, "That is very thoughtful of him, not blocking the road. He was busy taking the picture above and I grinded out my "In Law" smile as I rode past him. We could not help with fuel anyway, as it was on the Cruisers behind us.
Thinking back now, I can only imagine what Canzius must have thought as we rode past -  :imaposer:

So what was the issue right in the beginning with the flat battery on the Huskey? I recall you said something about Gps wiring...assume it was sorted. That 501 sure is the best looking bike on this tour!

Still not sure. I disconnected the gps fuse every night and put it back in the morning, just to be sure, Last few nights I forgot about it, but every morning the bike started fine.

Noneking, you seem to have run out of fuel a few times. Were you running the standard fuel tank?

It is a magnificent bike, and it weighs almost nothing.
It is also the newest bike on the trip.

Tom - the "special" battery in the bike was dead and could only be charged with some "special"charger according to the TRAX KTM workshop staff.
They also told me that they did not have such a charger in stock and that it would take several weeks to order.
I asked them if there was a normal battery replacement upon which they reluctantly gave me the part nr.
I then started phoning around and eventually found two batteries in George (at a fraction of the price of the special battery from KTM)
PK picked it up, and brought it with him to Windhoek where we wanted to replace it - only to find that the batteries were a centimeter too high (which meant that we had to remove a bracket to get it to fit. We luckily found the right battery in WH and all was sorted.
I have no idea what the problem was with his gps wiring, but it did not give any problems after he re-wired it.
