Look absolutely lovely!

How does the fuel price compare with SA's?

From my ignorance: What is the safety situation like there, especially in comparison to SA?

I saw it was cheaper but for the life of me I can't remembered the exact price.

Safety wise, I felt safe. People are always curious with foreign bikers

Friday 9 September - Semonkong to Telle Bridge to Zastron

Everyone woke up nice and refreshed. We all sat down for a nice breakfast and ready to go.
Through the Lodge goes a pathway up the mountain. This road leads to a nearby waterfall (which we were heading to)
When I took some pictures I saw people were living on the edge of the hill

First order of business, finding fuel. Google maps actually indicated a "local" fuel stop. Eventually found it after a couple of trail and error attempts.

From here we headed out to the waterfall. Quite a mission to get to (well for me it was).
Little did we know that the construction vehicles was about to start digging up the road and compacting it again. On our way back we found a little surprise waiting for us.

R100 per person to go look at the waterfall. Easy money!!

When we got to the parking area it was locked. I thought we picked the wrong day. Nope, all part of the plan.

Down he goes... (most of these pics are screenshots from the GoPro video taken. There was not a lot of time to stop and take pictures with these guys unfortunately).

Quite a steep downhill to get to the bottom. Struggled a bit. Still had to find my off the pavement riding feet.
The views were worth the effort though!

What goes down, must go up!
IMG_7232.JPG

The first guys started going up. They made it look easy! I held back to see what is what first. David decided to head up. He initially took a different route and quickly we had our first off for the trip. I helped him lift his bike up. As soon as he got momentum he dropped it again. This time the bike laid on a quite steep downhill angle. After assisting him again we realised the screen broke in the fall  At this point he lost some confidence and struggled to get up the hill. As I was watching him struggled my own confidence started edging away and I haven't even started ascending the hill! Finally it was my turn...... what a blast!!😁 That little Tornado ate that hill for breakfast! I was quite relieved when I got at the top!

We headed back out the valley with no further incidents, well...almost no incident. Firstly a cow ran in front of Jacques on his 1200gs. He stopped without hitting the cow, but then dropped his own cow in the process ;). Also, as mentioned earlier, the road was suddenly dug up where we almost had another off with one of the KTM guys.

We regrouped at the tar road again.

From here it was a long ride, tar all the way to Telle Bridge border post. We had another fuel stop along the way. Like I said, the guys were gunning it in Lesotho. Bunch of speed freaks which meant I could not stop for too many photos being the sweeper ;)

Couple more pictures. Lesotho was very beautiful with nice riding. But, on a 250 it's a bit tedious. Not my best part of the trip, but now I've seen Lesotho.

The border crossing into SA went quick and without hassles. Back in SA
Now to do a last 60km to Zastron where we will sleep for the night. Due to an already long day on the bike this 60km took forever!

Friend of mine was visiting me the weekend before we went. We discussed the trip and what I would be taking along. We spoke about the fuel bladder I had and it was emphasised that it is a good thing to take with on this trip. You never know... fast forward to the trip I thought, nah. I'll just siphon some fuel from someone else's bike...................

5km before Zastron 🤦‍♂️

After phoning a friend I was couriered 2L of fuel. Rode into Zastron and filled up immediately!!

We checked into our accommodation for the night, Mountain View

Had a nice dinner at one of the local restaurants. Ordered 7 500g T-bones and one Pizza (me 😁)
They actually had to go got more T-bones. Seems the smaller towns never get this many customers at once (will be the same in the other towns we visit)

After dinner we head home, has some fellowship and went to bed. Tomorrow the real fun starts!!!

At the end of our Ben10 trip we also stayed at Mountain View in Zastron, and ate at the same restaurant. Awesome T-bones! Thx for (still) sharing! And awesome pics, btw.

Stood in the same place 2016 wearing a red golf shirt. Next thing that happens is a local taxi stopping and out pops young locals high on the booze. Was greeted as their EFF-friend and pozed with me for selfies. Could not say or do much as being alone but left very quickly. 😁😁
Appardntly this waterfall is regarded as the start of the mighty Orange River.

Woke up to a beautiful view of the mountain. Apparently their is also a Vulture Conservation location close by.
Had a very very good breakfast, eggs, sausages, bacon, chicken strips, toast, strawberry jam and a good cup of coffee. Ready to hit the road!!

We had to do the 60km back to the Telle Bridge Border Post as that is where Lundean's Neck Pass would start.

Quick fuel stop at Sterkspruit
