Joubert's Pass was a beautiful pass and really mellow in comparison to what we have done up to this point. We ticked off the final box and went to book in at our final stop.

Tuesday 12 September - Homeward bound

Final day of the trip

What an amazing time spent with great guys!! We filled up in town and said our goodbyes. They still had a long day ahead of them. They had to ride back to the trailers that stood in Ladybrand. As for me, I had my own plan for the day.

Plan was to head to Aliwal North, then make my way on gravel roads all the way to Bloemfontein. General direction was Aliwal North, Bethuli/Smithfield area, Edenburg then Bloemfontein.

Took a lekke pace as I was on my own clock now.

COFFEEE!!!!

Thank you for taking us along on your Ben10 journey (y) (y)

I really enjoyed the holistic way you took us through the whole journey of prepping yourself and your bike, as well as the trip itself ...

I love the fact several of these passes are in a continual state of flux - I myself have been shutdown in the last 18 months on both Volunteershoek ( going up) and Bastersvoetpad ( going south) because of the conditions ( and my own timidity).

Reading your report and @Zanie’s (so far) has reinvigorated my desire to ride this area again soon.

Thanks!

What a lekker trip, well done.
It is always an added bonus when everybody get along on such a trip.

What I enjoy is that you and @subie (on his trip) did something "big" with small bikes. One doesn
t need an expensive BMW or KTM to have loads of fun. Not that its wrong to have one or precludes fun.

Thanks for sharing.

Dankie vir die deel, dis darm mooi wereld daai en n voorreg om daar te kan rondry

Thanks for the report. It's so interesting to see the area in a different season and to see it from someone else's perspective.

Crazy to leave tools behind in that region. You can get so monumentally stuck there if things go pear-shaped. Good thing you had the tools with on that day! Definitely must have felt like a superhero moment. I hope the flat tyre guy paid in beer!

Bonkers about the guy washing his bike every morning. I had a laugh about that one.

You mentioned you were glad you went down Volunteers due to the tyres. Were the tyres exposed again? Road surfaces change so rapidly! We were very lucky then. When we were there it would have been a breeze up and down.

I'd love to hear more about the experience on Baster. Any more pics? It would be interesting to compare road conditions. How was it in the forest after Baster? It was a clay mess when we were there. Or did you turn around at the top sign?

You've got me motivated to continue on my RR. Work has been hectic over the past few weeks, which is why I've been AWOL.

Yeah the tires were quite exposed, with a bit of a drop after each set of tires.

Baster we had to go up and back down unfortunately. The one guy's clutch burnt and we had to turn around to go back to him.

But I will go back!! It was too much fun only to be done once!!

I actually have a nice gpx file for circumventing Lesotho as close to the border as possible. Might be the next trip!

A pity, but definitely the smart move to turn back. I found the other side to be more hectic. How did the guy with the buggered clutch manage the rest of the ride? Or was it only partially-toasty?

It's definitely a must-return area. Stunningly beautiful and really exhilarating! Next time, I suggest to find yourself a crew of mini bikes that will travel at sweeper speed. Highly recommended. I note the increased number of pics on the last day, when you could just chill. ;)

:LOL::LOL:
Yeah I agree!! The return day was super fun!

O yeah, the guys clutch was only partially incapacitated for that section. He was able to continue onwards.
