Only a few days before this ride begins. To those doing this trip for the first time - prepare to be blown away.
Hoping to catch up with you guys at Purros.
May the motorcycles all hold up .

Excellent news Craig.
See you there.

Update:

One week to go before the crew leaves for Windhoek to prepare for the arrival of our guests.
As mentioned before - everyone is particularly stoked to do a Kaokoland tour again.
I am a bit nervous though - my foot is not yet healed properly, and riding on this trip will definitely take it's toll on a daily basis.

The second half of the ride report will be in a different thread - for those who do not want to read about the preparations prior to the tour.
Before I forget - We really wanted to make the most of this tour and decided to approach the Palmwag Concession Board for permission to ride the Crowter Trail again.
The Crowter Trail is a very special place and has been closed for motorcyclists for the last three years. We rode it a few times in the past before Wilderness Safari's forced the Palmwag Board to close it due to selfish reasons.
We received a mail from the board yesterday with the permits to ride the Crowter Trail attached.

Cheers
Hardy

[member=19649]Hardy de Kock[/member] did you see about the so called man eater lion who tried to kill a guy in that area?

Well the good news is, the lion probably will die of starvation by the time we get there.

Yebo - As mentioned before - This group has the collective ability to make this lion sit down for a beer, and effectively persuade him to allow us safe passage.

Story has it, this so called "man eating" lion always seemed to be an outcast.

He never amounted to much, he believed that he shouldn't have to work for his food. As a young Lion he always ate from the other lions kills, one day he was approached by the elder and asked why he doesn't hunt for himself. His answer was "I don't need to hunt because you do it for me" & this infuriated the elder.
So the elder decided to not allow this young Lion to eat from their kills.
Now due to the lack of hunting skills, because of his laziness and sense of entitlement he never had a successful kill. So he decided to become a "man eating Lion"  (because its easier) but man seemed to move much faster than he expected, especially when their legs became round and they roared louder than any other pride of lions.
Every time he got close to them. they would scream like a flock hardidars at first but the next minute a loud roar would come from under them and dust would shoot up into his face. (often the leader of this clan would shout "waar is die leeu?" and someone would shout back "Hardydaar". This upset the lion because he wasn't a hardidar)

Last we heard he has become a vegan & has blamed everyone else for his problems.

:imaposer: - You have just been moved to the front of the group as chief negotiator when we enter the Crowter Trail. My only advice would be not to start your negotiations with what you already think you know about Simba

My understanding is that the guy who was attacked was scouting a trail by foot at night, sometimes people also just need to think a bit.  But yes, once they start seeing humans as easy prey it become a problem.

By the time Hardy and co pass through the lions should already be relocated to Na'ankuse for rehabilitation.  They are in very bad shape and will not survive much longer.
