very nice MJ  :thumleft:

and respect to your wife and child for doing it with you  :thumleft:

MJ you think the DRZ400 is a good bike for the wife ???

If you are going to be doing a lot more of these trips with the missus would a DR650 with a huge tank not be better ???

Very very nice trip and RR!!  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

She loves it and can handle it easily. I don't see how a heavier bike will be of any benefit.

good point

was just thinking the dr650 is probably a little lower than the drz and you get the 27 litre safari tank - no more distance issues  :ricky:

MJ - RESPECT is the only word that i try use.  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

MJ, Tharina and Peanut - what an awesome experience you had!
I'm finding it difficult to writ any thing that has not been said already, but  Pink Goat's post  comes closet to my own feeling and experience of your amazing journey:

WOW!!! I can't describe what reading your RR does to me!! Absolutely beautiful! I've had tears well up in my eyes on numerous occassions while reading it... Moments of melancholy... longing for places I've never been, missing people I've never met... Some laughs and smiles at all the good things, and just admiration for what you've done and the fact that you get to share it with the people you love most!!

Absolute respect to you and your family!! Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts with us!!

Bless you for sharing this with us.

Metal Jockey does it again!!! Big up to Peanut and Tharina!!

MJ, what kind of tool kit/spares did you pack?

I packed flippin everything. Normally your mates would also pack tools, so if you need something, between the lot of you, a plan can be made.
Here however, I packed both bikes, so I had to pack everything that I could possibly need. I have been on two trips where the pump broke before, so I even had two pumps.

I was quite pleased with the way things worked out. When I needed a chain breaker, I had one, when I needed a masterlink, I had one, when I needed another, I had another, when I needed a multimeter, I had one, when I needed jumpercables, I had that too.

Now how do we get this ride report here:

'Roll of Honour' - Best Ride Reports
https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?board=32.0

Preferably on the top of the list!

Only now managed to finish reading your RR (although everyday eSKaPe asks me, have you finished it, have you finished it??) :) :)

And I really cant add anything new that hasnt been said by all the others of how awesome this RR is, but I can just say again WOW and RESPECT to all 3 of you for the roads you rode and especially Tharina, you really inspire me!!!!  :thumleft:

A very enjoyable read. Thank you very much for sharing.

Whew - thought I would get an early night!  Did a trip with 3 friends through the Kaokoveld in a Landy in 1995, and your report brought back some good memories.  Thanks very much!!

What a wonderful way for a family to draw closer together.  Well done!  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
