Louis, net vir interesantheid - Hasie was 'n oewerkonyn.

Yep my eerste gedagte ook.

:angel13:

:thumleft:

Thanks for the super RR!!  :laughing4:

We tend to focus on the rider and his experiences, but I would love to hear Mev. Visarend's tips and insights for other SWAMBOs who might consider undertaking such an long trip as pillion.  :deal:

Her side of the story is on the way.   :thumleft:

Kriek....kriek......kriek........   :peepwall:

heti, I wrote my reply a few times already just to delete it again.  I don't really know what to say.

People often ask me how I experience the trips as a pillion and all want to know if I do fall asleep at the back and what do I do to keep myself busy for so many hours.  It is very difficult for me to explain as we are a couple for about 34 years now and we do almost everything together, so, everything we do comes very natural to us.

I can just mention that I thoroughly enjoy the outdoors and biking.  Seeing that I am a lousy rider, I had to become a pillion. I keep myself busy by taking pictures, play with the camera or just drinking in the surroundings.  And then of cause, I keep the old man busy.  ( :imaposer: He needs to concentrate a lot more with me there at the back and forever moving around taking photos)

As a pillion, I experience the trip the same way as my hubby, just without all the hard work of riding.  (Hey, but it is hard work taking photo’s as well.)

I’ve got a few tips  :
Plan the route and the whole trip together so that you both know what you let yourself in for.
Be prepared to rough it and to take the bare minimum.  (But I NEVER go without my "face" )
Make things as easy as possible for each other.
Share responsibilities.  When we stop, we’ve got combined tasks to do and then each one has their own tasks to do before we can think to relax.
Ban all negative thoughts (for example snakes) from this trip.
As a pillion, learn to sense danger and learn to cope with hiccups.
Learn and trust the riders' riding skills.
Become one with the rider and his riding style and the bike.  Do not become the backseat rider.
There will be very long days in the saddle and you will get tired.  Never mind, tomorrow you will feel fresh again.
Keep each other busy, especially on long boring roads.
Turn everything that might resemble work into fun.
Just enjoy the trip.  It usually takes a lot of planning and a lot of money to do trips like this and it is not worth spoiling it with anything negative.

I hope I made sense with what I said, but please feel free to ask me specific questions should you want to know anything else and I will gladly try to help were possible.

Last but not least, I don’t always know how we stay upright, but most of the times we do.
The other times we just get close to nature – very close.  :lol8:
