As far as distance is concerned, you can still do the bulk of the road....all the dirt bits in fact.

The reason is that the heavy rains have caused a couple of subsidences very close to the road hence compromising the integrity of the road. One particular corner has visible cracks in the asphalt(!!) They place some of those concrete barriers across the whole width of the road. Until a few weeks ago one could squeeze through on the side on a mtb or bike, but according to @Mikie not any more. So...of all the 'passes' one cannot ride the Kaaimans river and Silwer river crossings. Although not dirt as said, they're actually the prettiest due to the terrain being super undulating and heavily forested.

Sounds like a "Hold my beer" affair... ;-)

WARNING for those who ride big/wide bikes (GSs!) as well as those having side-panniers on!!!!!
I was there recently with my 701 with Giant Loop over the luggage frame on the back, so a bit wider than without luggage ...... and at one point, where concrete barriers have been put up across the entire road, one has to ride over a narrow edge, ledge rather, which is a steep drop-off into a river I think.
This I would NOT try with panniers on my bike, and perhaps not even with a boxer - it is THAT narrow!!!!

Realize this please, and tell others (y)

If you can by all means, and this has been done at (all?) the other places barriered-off ..... but these are very closely positioned so your work will be cut out there....

Barrier Removal Bash?
This is the Western Cape. Our cops are pretty effective and would certainly enjoy a Biker Lockup Bash themselves. This could even provide free accommodation to the Barrier Removal Bash guys. 😜
