Montagu is not closed to bikes, I ride it regularly. Well....4x4's are a regularity on the pass so they're also squeezing past the barriers. There are some gnarly bits but they're short.

Agreed. Outeniqua Pass is also stunning in a different way.

Make a stop at the "4 Passes" view point....quite far from the top....3rd one from the top to be precise. So named because you're on the one pass....you look down on Montague Pass, you look across at the railway line, and the old Cradock Pass ( if you know what to look for) which was the original crossing over those mountains, done with ox wagons. If you stand and look at it and contemplate that thought, it's mind blowing.

The said pizza joint is Roadside Deli....ja, everyone here raves about their pizza's...I've not tried it yet.

Good advice on the the "4 Passes" stop.

I have eaten a burger and chips at the Roadside Deli, but never a Pizza. Everyone, including my wife raves about the pizza and my wife is a bit if a pizza connoisseur.

A KLR will make it past easy enough.

Montagu is "open" for bikes (use the gaps) and fine-enough, even for the average GS rider I reckon.
Not 'mooi' but fine (y)
Take video of the squeeze past if you try, please note, I have not checked the Barriers on the otherside to see what getting around them are like.
The 2 closures are around about here

I think we should inundate the roads department with complaints? It seems they are dragging feet here from what I have been reading the last day...
They spent money fixing Bloukrans but this stretch serving as a major tourist attraction gets waysided?

To be fair, Bloukrans was closed for a few years before they fixed it.

Bloukrans is still closed....its only open on the WC side......effectively it was only fixed so that the WC could give the EC a big fat toffee.

My point... meanwhile a better tourist attraction is left?
I don't see the 7 Passes Road as much of a tourist attraction. They will surely fix it, but storm damage in the area is more important. The huge mudslides between George and Mossel Bay for instance.

This was only damaged in the last 6 months by storm damage, you cant compare Bloukrans, I remember back in 2016 when we did a trip down here, it was closed. Give it time, I have no doubt that at some stage it will be fixed

Ok, now I understand a bit more.
