Day 22 Rooidraai to Molopo Lodge

We thoroughly enjoyed out visit with our friends, but it was time to be on the road again.  We also arranged with Woody 1 that we will meet them at Verneukpan.

The route is from Rooidraai to the main road, the C15 then onto the C17 to Koes, C11 to Aroab, cross the border into SA at Rietfontein and then to Molopo lodge, some 190km before Upington.

Before we start something special for JMOL.

As the sun came up, we were on the road, sorry, sand again.
Another 20km and 3 off’s before the main road.

You learn quickly to fall in style.

Inflating the tyres again. We only used the compressor to inflate and deflate the tyres.  We were very lucky not to get any punctures during our trip.

Then it was on the road to Koes.

In Koes we refuelled and met Rickus.  We had a chat and they were also on their way to Gobabis for the weekend.  Hierdie Namibiers kan darem lekker gatskuur.
He warned me to be on the lookout for the powder patches on the road to Aroab.
Here is one of them.  You will have you hands full if you hit one of these.

Some scenery on the way to Aroab.

You don’t argue with this guy.  Geelslang, also known as a Cobra.

JMOL, jy word bederf vandag.

In Aroab we refuelled again and had a grub at the Wagon Wheel.

It was time to say our good bays to Namibia, we had a great time.  We will be back.

Entering SA

Some pans on the way to Molopo lodge.

We spoiled ourselves and booked in a chalet, bought some of the best braaipacks imaginable.  They made us braaibroodjies at R15-00 a piece and even set a table for us.  They supplied the plates, knifes and forks and a casserole for the meat at no extra cost.  Ice was also on the house.

Jissie ma julle twee eet lekkerder as daai VOETSPORE span!!! :drif: :drif: :deal:

Nee oom vis... julle maak ons nou lus vir toer en eet... ek is al lus om saam julle Nam te gaan toer net vir die kos.... julle ken my storie met die rooi vleis en RR maak dit moeilik...

Greens = Checkers Hoender

Thanks, en JA, ons het 'n vakansie dringend nodig.  Ons soek net 'n bietjie donasies sodat ons weer kan ry.  Die bagsie is klaar skoon en gepak.    :imaposer:

Day 23 Molopo lodge to Verneukpan

The early birds were on the road again, grinding into the 190km tar to Upington.

In Upington we refuelled and had a brekkie at Wimpy.
Crossing the Orange River.

Keimoes and Kenhardt were the next towns on the map.
In Kenhardt we bought our last supplies as we did not know what was available at Verneukpan.
Kenhardt

The road to Verneukpan.

We booked in at the farmhouse some 7km from Verneukpan.
Going down to Verneukpan.

They plough these circles to enhance vegetation / plant growth for the sheep.

I don’t know how I got my dates mixed up.  We were suppose to meet Woody1  at the pans, I was a day to early.  Must be the old age.  Sorry Woody1.
Verneukpan.

Kenhardt did not have fresh bread, so we made our own, for old time sake.

Making a fire as the sun is setting.

It was so cold, we sat inside the tent and enjoyed our meal.

Ek het dit al gesê maar magtag, julle is yster, veral met daai sandpaaie.  En julle dieëtkeuse val so reg in my smaak, my mond water behoorlik by elke foto! :drif:

Day 24 and 25 Verneukpan to De Aar and then home, King William’s Town

Our trip was coming to an end, our route was basically the shortest road back home.  I set the GPS on our house address and followed the route given.

We missed Woody1 (I can still kick my ass for this), but left a message in a bottle.

We went onto the pan for the last couple of photos before hitting the road.

Going home.

The farmhouse were we booked in last night.  We stopped and greeted the old folk and had a good laugh before we left.
Ons praat lekker en uit die bloute vra oom Giel of hy my ‘n persoonlike vraag kan vra.  Ek se toe oom kan ma voortgaan.
Vraag die ou man, “Is dit jou wetiglike getroude vrou saam wie jy rondry, julle bikers is mos stout mense”.
Seg ek vir die ou kêrel, “Moet asb nie vir my vrou vertel ons was hier nie”.

The road to Van Wyksvlei.

Erdvarkgat

We found this little rabbit on the road to Van Wyksvlei.  We search for his family, but could find nothing.  We decided to take him/her along as she most probably stood a better chance of survival with us.  We made him a bed in the tank bag and the little rabbit, named Hasie, was in for a 800km bike ride.

The road to De Aar.

We booked in at De Aar.
Hasie enjoying the green grass.

A man’s hotdog, French loaf with butter, garlic, boiled potato, cheese, union, tomato, boerewors  and some sauce.

The last day home

We woke the chickens and were on the road.  We made a hot water bottle for Hasie and zipped him/her in the tank bag.

We arrived at home around 1 o clock, safe and sound.

Hasie was a happy chappie.

Our route completed.

We hope you enjoyed this trip as much as we did.  Ride safe

Well done to the two of you, and thanks for letting us ride along...this has been a really great report!

I'll be waiting for you to post your route file. I lived in Windhoek for five years ('96 to'01) and saw quite a bit of the country...but I have been slowly putting a bike trip together to take my fiancé as she has never been ;D
